About the material

ABOUT CACTUS LEATHER

Cactus leather is a real alternative to animal leather, made from a 100% natural and abundant resource in Mexico: the nopal cactus. This material is produced from organically grown cactus in Zacatecas, cultivated sustainably and free from toxic chemicals, phthalates, and PVC.

To create this material, organically grown nopales are harvested, cleaned, mashed, and sun-dried for three days before being processed. They are then dyed using natural pigments. The result is an organic, certified, and partially biodegradable plant-based leather.

It can last up to 10 years—about the same lifespan as animal leather.

One of the key characteristics of cactus leather is its matte finish and softness, which make it look and feel remarkably similar to animal leather.

Cactus leather is certified by PETA, USDA Organic, SGS, UKAS, DAkkS, and Öko-Garantie.

ABOUT THE COTTON GABARDINE

The cotton fabrics used in the Cargo Tote (both outer and lining) come from a Mexican supplier based in Mexico City and are made with Mexican cotton sourced from Chihuahua. This supplier specializes in 100% cotton textiles and creates innovative, high-quality fabrics for clients in Mexico, the U.S., Latin America, and Europe.

Both fabrics are 100% cotton and dyed using a reactive dyeing process, meaning the color is heat-fixed. The fabric is interlined with a type of gabardine known as “Brushed Gabardine,” bonded with an adhesive made from natural rubber.

This is a high-quality textile that balances durability and softness—perfect for everyday use.

Care instructions

SPECIAL CARE FOR CACTUS LEATHER

Cactus leather is a highly organic material, which means your bag needs special care:

  • Avoid contact with abrasive surfaces, as cactus leather can scratch or become damaged.
  • To keep your bag clean and in good condition, use a foam solution made with mild soap and remove it completely with a white cotton cloth dampened with water. Light colors may require more frequent cleaning.
  • Do not clean your bag with solvents such as alcohol, acetone, paint thinner, bleach, oils, vinegar, waxes, silicones, leather conditioners, or detergents, as these can cause permanent damage to the material.
  • Do not mark your bag with ink, as it may absorb into the material and cause a permanent stain.
  • For spills like beer, wine, juice, soda, liquor, coffee, tea, or chocolate, clean the stain as soon as possible using a mild shampoo-based cleaning solution. Then rinse with a cloth soaked in water to remove any residue. Prompt cleaning is especially important for colored liquids.
  • Avoid contact with oils, grease, makeup, sunscreen, or tanning oils. If this happens, clean the stain as soon as possible with mild liquid soap.

Cactus leather is treated to prevent color transfer to other materials. However, some accessories or garments with poor dye fixation may bleed and stain your bag. If this occurs, clean the stain immediately with a foam solution of neutral soap and a white cotton cloth. You can also use a 50/50 solution of water and chlorine-free disinfectant. Then rinse with water and let it dry.
